NPSL Playoffs!

After a long day of work, my dad and I set off for Leesburg, Virginia to watch the semifinal game between Northern Virginia United Football Club and Fc Frederick. After hitting a lot of traffic we finally got there after an hour and 15 minutes of driving. When arriving to the field this stadium was definitely the nicest venue of the entire league. With full stands with 2 levels, a concession stand, and 2 team stores, NVUFC definitely was made to host a large and important tournament.

After losing to NVUFC twice during the season, Fc Frederick looked to find a way to win, on the road as the visiting team. After playing to halftime in 0-0 draw, it would be the 60thminute of play that would get things rolling. Saiduo would find the back of the net to make it 1-0 Frederick, but the celebration would be short as NVUFC would find a response at the 64thminute of play. After another 30 minutes of no goals, we would go into extra time, a guaranteed 30 minutes no matter who scores.

In the 110thminute of play the ref would call a penalty kick for NVUFC after a slide tackle by Frederick’s defender. The Virginia midfielder would score to take the lead 2-1, with 10 minutes to play. However, midfielder Brian Flatter would silence their fans when a ball in the box after a corner made its way to his feet for a side volley into the back of the net.

The game would hit the 120nd minute of play tied at 2-2, making us go into a penalty kick shootout. After Fc Frederick’s goalie Phil Breno would block the 3rdkicker of Virginia’s team it would be the 5thkicker of Frederick to seal the win and give them a chance to play in the championship game versus Fc Baltimore on Saturday.

Fc Frederick vs Fc Baltimore or now known as the Maryland Derby will happen one more time this season!
